OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Raging Tide have appeared to have put the finishing touches on its roster for the 2014 season. This week, the Tide added the final three names to the roster to fill some needs, Rahiem Cooper (Virginia Tech), Will Ore (West Virginia State) and Jake Friar (Sacred Heart).
In a Virginia Tech lineup loaded from top to bottom, it was tough for Rahiem Cooper to see the playing field. However, that is not a knock against his abilities. Cooper, a 6’0” utility player from Gordonsville, VA, is arguably the fastest player on the Hokies roster. His speed on the base paths perfectly fits with the aggressive coaching style of Raging Tide head coach, Chris Torres.
Will Ore is an important left hand addition to the pitching staff. Coming from West Virginia State, the 5’10”, 215lb. lefty went 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA this season. The Raging Tide pitching staff is pretty heavy on right handed pitchers, so having Ore as a solid southpaw to mix it up throughout the season is much needed.
Rounding out the new trio is Jake Friar, a catcher from Sacred Heart. Friar, a Westport, MA native just completed his freshman season. He was a decorated two-year captain at Westport High School who will be an integral part of the Sacred Heart team moving forward. He threw out 12 of 15 runners this past season, played in 32 games and will be the Pioneers’ every day catcher as a sophomore next season.
The Raging Tide’s home opener is on June 4th at 7pm at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach against the Nashua Silver Knights.
